About Protective Orders
A protective order is a court-issued directive that restricts an individual's contact with another person. A full no-contact protective order — the type referenced in several of this week's arrests — prohibits any contact whatsoever, including in-person, by phone, or by message. Violation of a protective order is a separate criminal offense regardless of any underlying incident, and can result in immediate arrest. A standing criminal protective order is a longer-term order issued at the conclusion of a criminal case, often lasting years.
According to the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, violation of protective orders is one of the most consistent indicators of escalating risk in domestic violence cases.
All charges referenced in this article are allegations. All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Information was provided by the Milford Police Department in its daily press release dated May 14, 2026.
